This interactive video/sound piece re-purposes an extracted keyboard from a grand piano, and connects it with Max/MSP and Arduino programming. The piano keyboard is converted into a midi controller by installing pushbuttons, springs, and wiring it to route to Arduino and Max/MSP to control video playback. This piece revisits various renditions of The Nightmare [e.g. John Henry Fuseli and Frederick Sandys], and the myths of sleep paralysis. The artist appears in a video projected over the keyboard, enacting a multitude of gestures. Each of these acts of the artist are controlled by users who operate the piano keys.
