Emergenc/y

Year: 2015-2017

Medium/Description: A single-channel, data-driven video, incorporating visual programming language and Twitter to run a programmed algorithm. It plays on a small computer, and projected large on a hanging screen. Video properties: 1920x1080, HD, 29.97fps, silent.

The video runs continuously, showing a screen "walking" across three separate landscapes. As the screen walks, it reveals text from real-time Twitter tweets. The tweets are live, ongoing, non-repetitive, and posted by any source in the world. The content of each tweet is streamlined by pre-selected hashtags (countries, cities, epicenters, time zones, etc.). Tweets change every three minutes at random.

The piece comments on overall behaviors of ourselves amidst the torrent of information we’re connected to and try to follow; The difficultly to disengage from the 24/7 always-on news cycle, how it can be cryptic or pithy from our sources, and our social media (Twitter specifically) as an imperfect information conduit and integral element of the art.

This piece is connected to real time data when running. Here I'm showing documentation of the live piece.
